Dedicated to the memory of Sally McCullough

Sally McCullough
1997 - 2016 (18/07/2016)

From the very first time I see Sally on the Blue Cross website (she was 16 & a half years old), I fell in love with her beautiful little face & I knew I needed to give her a forever home, no way could I allow her to be without a real home during her final years (as good as the blue cross are).

When we got her home she only needed a couple of hours to settle in & straight away her favourite place was my lap. She was affectionate & enjoyed a fuss but when she needed alone time she had many different hiding spots throughout the house, sometimes we would search the house for her & would be convinced she'd gone out until later when she would come down the stairs without a care in the world. Sally was a sun worshiper, she would lay in front of a window, on our shed roof or on a paving slab in the garden, anywhere the sun was shining & roll around like a kitten, she loved to run up & down the stairs chasing her tail. Eventually she claimed our spare room as her own bedroom, she had her own double bed (an occasional guest room) but would sometimes choose to sleep in our bed with us.

In April 2014 Sally had a tumour develop on her right ear so this had to be removed, she was so brave through it all despite her obvious pain & her old age, but once it was all healed she was back to her normal self, stealing my seat when I got up & making it obvious she wasn't moving. Sadly earlier this year she was diagnosed with kidney disease, we managed her illness with tablets & a special diet for 6 months but despite our best efforts sadly Sally deteriorated over the last week of her precious life, we knew deep down what the vets would advise, but I don't think you ever really expect to hear it. We couldn't allow her to be in pain, she had a couple of jabs at the vets to help try pick her up while we took her home to decide all the while praying she would pick up.

We stayed with her at the vets while she was put to sleep the next day & cuddled & kissed her until she was gone!

We miss you SO much, our beautiful girl, the sound of your claws taping across our wooden floor, you welcoming us as we arrive home, following us around the house, tapping our cheeks to wake us during the night, even the 4/5am alarm clock of you meowing for your breakfast. We love you so, so much Sally, you were, are the light of our lives, & you will be in our hearts forever!! Sleep peacefully our beautiful Sally cat, until we meet again Xx
